Podtrac tracks your show’s performance on three different platforms: Podtrac, Apple and Spotify.

Podtrac Rankings

Podtrac measures thousands of shows including the top shows from large publishers as well as smaller shows.  The Rankings tabs on your dashboard provide insight into how your shows rank against all Podtrac measured shows. You will always see Podtrac ranking data for your show, regardless of its size.

Podtrac provides Show-level and Account-level rankings.  The Show-level ranking displays how your show ranks among all Podtrac measured shows. The Account-level Rankings tab (click on Key Metrics on the left and then Rankings at the top) allows you to see at a glance how each show in your account ranks among Podtrac measured shows and against one another by month.

Both Account-level and Show-level rankings are available at the US and Global levels, which you can select using the Global/USA drop down at the upper right of your screen. You can also view how each of your shows ranks within its main category by using the Overall/Category drop down at the upper right of the screen.

Rankings are monthly and are provided for both Unique Monthly Audience (UMA) and Monthly Downloads along with an indication of how the rank has changed from last month. For each metric the percentile is given which allows you to understand how your rank fits into the larger picture of all shows.

Apple Rankings

You will only see data on the Apple Rankings page if your show has been ranked by Apple in the past two years. Rankings are provided by Overall, Category and Sub-category (determined by how you have defined your categories with Apple) for all countries ranked by Apple for the past two years.  You can click on the column headers to sort by Category, Country, Highest Rank, etc.  By clicking on any entry in the chart, you can view daily rankings for that entry.  For example, daily rank in the Arts category, in the US, over the past two years.  As long as Apple ranks your show, Apple rank will display, whether or not Podtrac measurement was used during that period.

Countries ranked by Apple

Apple provides rankings in 50 Countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea ( Republic of), Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela, Viet Nam.

Categories ranked by Apple

Apple provides rankings in 19 Categories and 49 Sub-categories.  The number of podcasts Apple ranks by category (and country) varies.  In the United States for example, Apple ranks between 100 and 200 podcasts within each category so if a rank for your show isn’t displayed, it wasn’t ranked by Apple.

Spotify Rankings

You will only see data on the Spotify Rankings page if your show has been ranked by Spotify in the past two years. Spotify does not cover as many categories or countries as Apple, so you may see Apple rankings and not see Spotify rankings.  As long as Spotify ranks your show, Spotify rank will display whether or not Podtrac measurement was used during that period.

Spotify provides a “Top” and “Top Episodes” chart/ranking in each of the 26 countries it covers.  Spotify recognizes an additional 17 charts based on category, but each of those is not available in every covered country.  The number of podcasts Spotify ranks by category is more limited than Apple.  In the United States for example, Spotify ranks only 50 podcasts within each category so if a rank for your show isn’t displayed, it wasn’t ranked by Spotify.

Countries ranked by Spotify

Spotify provides charts for the following countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, United States.
