Episode Growth Comparison
What it is: The graph displays cumulative global downloads for the first 45 days after publication for your most recent 10 episodes. Mouse over each data point to see both downloads to date as well as downloads on that particular day.
The chart allows you to compare global download activity during the first 7, 14, 30 and 45 days after publication for all of your episodes. Each Growth vs Avg column shows the percent growth in the metric versus the average of downloads in that same time period for all episodes published in the previous 90 days.
Why it’s important: The 7, 14, 30 and 45-Day downloads metrics normalize the time period over which you are looking at your show’s data and let you see how an individual episode is performing during that time period versus your other episodes. For most shows, 80% of downloads occur during the first 7 days and 90% during the first 30 days.
How to use it: The Episode Comparison metrics can be used in several ways:
Understanding the delivery pattern for your particular show - do most of your downloads happen in the first 7 days? Or are they spread out over the month or even longer?
Understanding if your show is growing via increased listening to each new episode - if the growth trend is positive for each X-Day time period over several episodes, that tells you that more listening is happening to newer episodes and most likely is bringing in new listeners. You can verify that by checking that your Audience numbers are also growing.
Identifying popular content - if you see a spike in X-Day listening for a particular episode, or the trend line for a particular episode is out of the normal range (like in the screenshot above), that tells you there was something about that episode which made it more popular with listeners. You’ll want to take a look at what is different about an episode that falls out of the normal pattern- did you change format? Is it longer or shorter than normal? Did you have a popular guest? This information can prove invaluable in programming your show’s content.
